Bio

Jayne Sims artistic journey is one of discovery and transformation. Having always loved art throughout school, she found her true passion later in life as a self-taught abstract artist. After many years in hairdressing, Jayne shifted her focus to painting, rediscovering a creative outlet that had always been a part of her.

Living on the edge of the Barossa Valley South Australia, her surroundings have a profound influence on her work, but her creativity extends far beyond landscapes. Through abstract expressionism, she channels raw emotion and personal meaning, creating art that invites viewers to connect with it on their own terms.

This shift to painting brought a new depth and sensitivity to her art, with each piece reflecting her growth—not only as an artist but as a person. Her work is a dynamic reflection of the evolving relationship between her creative self, her family life with her husband and two boys, and the world around her.

Jayne’s Artistic Journey

In 2017, Jayne held her first solo exhibition at Fleur Social in the Barossa Valley. It was a moment to share her work in a more personal way, blending her own experiences with broader themes that would shape her art moving forward.

Since then, Jayne’s work has gained wider attention, with her art being included in group exhibitions across South Australia, Brisbane, and New South Wales. She has also been a finalist in well-regarded art prizes, including the Corner Store Gallery Inside this Box Art Prize, in 2023. Her participation in exhibitions at Aspire Gallery Brisbane, such as Petite Pieces and Rustle, has helped her establish a place in the Australian art scene. Additionally, Jayne has sold work internationally, with pieces reaching collectors in the USA, further expanding her reach.

Her solo exhibitions at Etko and SJ Establishment reflect her growth as an artist. Series like Being Bold and Beauty Express showcase her ability to combine emotion and abstract form, inviting viewers to connect with their own experiences while resonating with the landscapes that inspire her work.

As a self-taught artist, Jayne brings a fresh perspective to abstract art. Her work is an expression of her personal journey, showing how creativity can transform an artist’s life and create meaningful connections with others.
